Description
With some of the most unusual and interesting foliage coloration of any Heucherella, and color lasting year round on a vigorous plant, ‘Solar Eclipse’ will not disappoint. Who would’ve ever thought that brown would be an appealing foliage color on an herbaceous perennial plant?…but the large, brownish red palmate leaves, edged all the way around with brilliant lime green, definitely have the wow factor. Throw a long mid spring to early summer bloom season in the mix, sporting abundant spikes of pretty white flowers that float above the foliage, and you have a great accent plant for shady garden beds or container gardens that both you and the butterflies and hummingbirds will enjoy. Best in part shade but will tolerate full sun in climates where summers are cooler.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a dense mound to about 10 to 12 inches tall and 18 inches wide, with blooms to 18 inches tall, the Solar Eclipse Heucherella is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or containers, or in groupings in perennial shade gardens, woodland borders, along paths and walkways or around patios. A fine addition to Heuchera gardens, woodland gardens, rock gardens, cottage gardens and perennial shade gardens.
In garden beds or containers, we like to combine Heucherella plants with other Heuchera or Heucherella varieties, Hosta lilies, perennial ferns and other part shade to shade loving plants and trees.
Suggested Spacing: 16 inches apart for mass plantings; 36 inches or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
When planted right, and in the right spot Heucherella are very easy to grow.
Sun Preference: Heucherella thrive in partially shaded to shady sites. Morning and late afternoon and evening sun are fine, but avoid direct afternoon sunlight to prevent leaf scorching.
Soil Preferences: Heucherella prefer a moist but well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic
Care: In the warmer climates of the southern zones plants are often evergreen, retaining nice foliage color throughout the winter season. In colder, northern zones foliage may discolor or die back over a harsh winter. Simply prune unsightly foliage away before new growth begins to emerge in late winter or early spring.
