Description
A rare one in many ways, ‘Snowbells’ is a semi-weeping Camellia featuring small but abundant, dangling, bell-shaped flowers that will fill your garden with a heavenly aroma in late winter to early spring. After the bloom, finely textured evergreen leaves resembling a blueberry bush emerge a bronze color turning to deep green. Native to the Chinese provinces of Hunan, Guizhou and Jiangxi, Snowbells forms an upright shrub up to 10 feet in height with arching branches spreading 4 to 5 feet wide. Plant this one near patios and other outdoor living spaces where the fragrance can be enjoyed from close up.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 6 to 10 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, the Snowbells Camellia can be grown as a shrub or small tree. As a shrub it is ideal for use as a specimen in small to mid-size garden spaces or in groupings in larger landscape borders. Nice as espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) in home foundation plantings. As this camellia grows taller lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive small evergreen tree that serves well as a specimen in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to camellia gardens, fragrance gardens, white theme gardens, cottage gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers.

Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.
