Description
The foliage of Nandina turns red only during the winter, right? Well, not anymore…at least not with the new Flirt Dwarf Nandina. Unlike many other nandina varieties which are green throughout the warm season and turn red in winter, Flirt, a sport of N. domestica ‘Harbour Dwarf’, produces stunning red new growth during the spring, summer and fall! Then, during winter it goes almost completely reddish-maroon. So now you can have splashes of outstanding red color year round in the landscape! In spring, pretty panicles of white flowers rise above the low mounds of red foliage. That said, Flirt Nandina is sterile, which means it will not spread from seed.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 2 feet tall and 1.5-2 feet wide, the Flirt Nandina is an excellent choice for stunning groupings or mass plantings in sunny to partially shaded landscape borders and home foundation plantings. Also ideal for use to line walkways and paths. Makes a fine accent in container gardens and is a nice addition to rock gardens, red theme gardens, and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).
Spacing: 18 inches apart for mass plantings; 4 feet or more apart for space between plants

How Many Plants Needed To Cover A Planting Area?
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Nandina variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Flirt Nandina is exceptionally easy to grow in most any average, moist but well drained soils and full sun to part shade. Plants are exceptionally drought tolerant when established. As with so many other shrubs, constantly wet or soggy can cause root rot and other plant diseases. Exceptionally low maintenance requiring little if any pruning. Its low water needs makes it highly suitable for Xeriscape gardening.

Finally an honest online nursery. I ordered a 6-pack of 1 gallon Flirts and they were actually 1 gallon plants. I have made many online nursery purchases this summer trying to recover from winter damage. Other nurseries shipped me 2-inch PLUGS placed into 1-gallon pots – so dishonest! Wilson Bros. shipped true 1 gallons – they were packed well and received in good condition here on a 100 degree day in Texas. You can see the roots fill the 1 gallon pot in my pics. I paid a little more here but the plants were so much better. I will be ordering here again. Thank you Wilson Bros. for having integrity. :)———————————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
