Description
Often the first of the fall blooming Sasanquas to flower, Cotton Candy Camellia produces a mesmerizing abundance of fully double, fluffy flowers with cotton candy pink petals. A standout in the garden! This highly desirable ornamental bush has a sturdy, upright growth habit with small dark green leaves that make it useful as a hedge or a small evergreen tree form specimen.
Landscape & Garden Uses
A Camellia with an upright habit of growth to about 5-8 feet tall and 4-6 feet wide (depending on pruning), Cotton Candy can be grown as a shrub or small tree. As a shrub it is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a hedge or background plant in landscape borders and is especially nice as espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) in home foundation plants. As this camellia grows, lower branches can be removed to form a small evergreen tree that serves well as an attractive and colorful focal point specimen in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to camellia gardens, pink theme gardens, Asian gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors during winter by those who garden above USDA Zone 7a, where this camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy. Find Your Zone
Suggested Spacing: 4 to 5 feet apart for solid hedge; 10 feet apart for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.

As always Wilson Brothers comes throu again! I was skeptical about both shrubs being packaged together, but if you are careful about removing them from the shipping box, they will be fine! They were taller than I expected, even thou they were a little on the thin side and there was no soil in the pots (just a massive root ball), they were very healthy and full of flower buds! I had their planting holes ready with root mulch and planted them as soon as they arrived! Just waiting for the buds to open with anticipation !! Thank you Wilson Brothers for the new additions to my camelia garden…..will be ordering more shrubs in the spring (Arizona Blue North Carolina Cypress will be first!)—————————————————–Thanks for the photos! I’m sorry about the soil problem, but glad they are thriving. We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Ordering from Wilson bros has been a great experience! Never would I dream you could ship good size healthy camellias from there to the Pacific Northwest, this is the second camellia I have from them. Both arrived very healthy. Now just waiting for blooms, probably next year! I was worried about the cotton candy, it traveled across the midwest during a cold snap, so I reached out to get some suggestions on how best to nurture it with extra tlc when it arrived. Got a wonderfully helpful response with extra directions. And the camellia arrived looking very healthy other than the very smallest new leaves showing signs it had been cold. I wouldn’t hesitate to order from them again! I will probably avoid ordering in the late fall/winter since its a long journey to Olympia! Fabulous company and plants!!!———————————————-Wow!! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG

I ordered these Sazanka plants to try out in Michigan. I will plant some and keep one in my florida room for insurance. Plants arrived well packaged and wrapped. Have a good knife and staple puller and put on your work gloves to unpack properly.
Plants were healthy with thick cushiony leaves!
I made a little tea from the spare leaves of the lowest branches: white to green profile, not strongly tea tasting – more noticeable is that it smells like cloves! It helps to cut the leaves into small pieces as opposed to just boiling it “monkey picked”. Makes a nice chaser after a stronger tea. I’m looking forward to a future of having this tea available for back yard brewing.
Very happy with this experience and if they handle winter well will buy more from Wilson Bros again to fill out my garden.—————————————————Thanks for the kind words!! We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the great review! Beth | WBG 🙂

This plant arrived intact and incredibly healthy, and it has stayed that way after having been transplanted. I haven’t seen it bloom yet, but I expect it to be spectacular. The service and inventory at Wilson Bros is excellent.——————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come!
