Description
One of if not the lowest growing of all the ground hugging Juniper varieties, Blue Rug is one we use more than any other juniper as a groundcover in landscape design. Growing to only a few inches tall at most and spreading to about 5 to 6 feet wide over time, the trailing branches form a dense, dark blue-green mat that turns an attractive purplish-bronze during winter. Excellent for use to underplant small trees such as Japanese maples or as a groundcover in home foundation plantings and on embankments, hillsides and slopes. Very nice around boulders and to spill over brick, stone or wooden walls.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 to 4 inches tall and spreading in a dense mat to 5 feet or more wide, the Blue Rug Juniper is ideal for use as a groundcover or broder in home foundation plantings, landscape borders and for erosion control on slopes. It will cascade over walls and is a great choice to underplant small trees such as Japanese Maple and Crape Myrtle. A fine addition to conifer gardens, blue theme gardens, rock gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: 3 to 4 feet apart for mass plantings; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
The Blue Rug Juniper is easy to grow in most any well-drained soil of average to low fertility. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can cause root rot and other harmful plant diseases. Best in full sun however will tolerate some light shade. We recommend at least 7 hours of direct sunlight per day.
