Description
Blooming mid to late season in April and May, Arctic Rose is a wonderfully unique cold hardy Camellia hybrid featuring large, semi-double flowers with brilliant deep pink to rose-red petals. Cold hardy to as far north as USDA Zone 6a, Arctic Rose has better cold tolerance than most camellias. Its large, glossy dark green leaves provide the perfect backdrop and contrast of color for the flowers. The truly stunning flowers and beautiful dark green foliage are excellent for cutting and displaying in your favorite vase, or for floating in a bowl of water.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to about 8-10 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide, Arctic Rose can be grown as a large shrub or small tree. As a shrub it is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a hedge or background plant in landscape borders and is especially nice as a corner plant or espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) in home foundation plantings. As this camellia grows lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive and colorful focal point specimen tree in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to Camellia gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors during winter above USDA Zone 6a, where this cultivar is not reliably winter hardy outdoors. Find Your Zone
Spacing: 4 to 5 feet apart for solid hedge; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun and evening sun is fine.

I was excited to discover Wilson Brothers Gardens and their selection of zone 6 hardy camellias. I didn’t know that it was possible to grow them in my St. Louis garden. It arrived fairly quickly, well packaged and very hardy looking. The web site was so easy I have no memory of it (this is a good thing). If this one does well, more will most certainly be ordered.————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Hi there,
The two camellias arrived today, and they look fantastic! Very healthy and sturdy looking with shiny green leaves. I am so very pleased! Thank you for the excellent packaging. I had no trouble getting them out of the box by following your instructions. They are sitting happily side-by-side on my front porch in a mostly shady location that only gets a tiny bit of morning sun. The planting area has been prepared, and they will go in the ground within the next 48 hours. Just wanted to let you know I am taking good care of these plants that you obviously put heart and soul into. Thank you so much, and I am already looking forward to purchasing more of your wonderful plants
